Welcome to St Michael's Episcopal Church. We are located in the heart of Waynesboro, Gerogia, the Bird Dog Capital of the World.

Please take a few moments to look around our website and discover who we are. And after you're done browsing, come and join us at 10:30am every Sunday for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.

Programs

Our aim is to be the smallest big church possible. What does this mean? We want to provide the same quality programming for all ages, the same mission opportunities, the same rich worship, and the same support that churches 10 times our size provide without losing the intimate, family feel that makes St Michael's a special place.

Episcopal Church Women
We meet every other month for a dinner and program. We are very much involved in local missions and have several fundraisers each year to support our projects, the most famous fundraiser being our Annual Bake Sale. In 2006 we will meet on March 29, May 31, July 26, September 27, and November 29 at 6:00pm in the Parish Hall. A nursery is provided at all meetings.
For more detailed information, please contact Sandi Chalker.

EYC (Youth)
We meet every Sunday night at 5:30pm for a snack supper and program. We like to travel and in recent months have been to Atlanta for a Braves game and a day at Six Flags and very recently we went to Charleston, SC to paint for Rural Mission, Inc, a mission to migrant workers in the Charleston area. We like to be mobile, so come join us on Sunday nights and always bring your walking shoes! For more information email the rector.

Men's Club
We meet quarterly for a large meal and program. We like hearty food, we're meat and potatoes kinds of guys. We always have around 50 men from all over Waynesboro join us for Low Country Boil, chicken and steak, and other manly meals. But we don't skimp on faith, either. At our last meeting, our manly rector revealed how he uses Secret deodorant. You never know what will happen when you come.

Wimberly House
In the early 1990s, St Michael's purchased a home owned by the Wimberly family. We turned this home into an ecumenical outreach for Waynesboro. Every day something special is going on at the Wimberly House. We have an after school program for latch-key kids, weekly respite care for senior adults with Alzheimer's, support groups, Girl Scouts, and a professional counseling program. Coming February 25 is our annual Wimberly House Gala that raises $30,000 for the operation of the ministries at Wimberly House. Wimberly House Ministries, Inc., is run by an ecumenical board with Mr. Tat Thompson as Chairman of the Board and Fr. Rice as President. For more information, email Mrs. Nancy Minyard, Director of Wimberly House Ministries.

Acolytes
Our acolytes serve each Sunday morning as crucifer (person who carries the processional cross), torch bearers (persons who carry lit torches in processions) and server (person who helps the priest set the altar for communion). Our acolytes serve a vital role in our worship and as of now all acolytes are youth. Adults are also welcome as acolytes.

Altar Guild
The Altar Guild prepares the Church for the celebration of the Holy Eucharist each week. They prepare the bread and wine, prepare the linens, make sure the Church is in perfect order, and clean the communion vessels after worship. We could not worship without the Altar Guild!

St Martha's Guild
St Martha's Guild is a brand new guild for the upkeep and beautification of our church interior. This guild is especially for persons who like to decorate and enhance the appearance of our church.

St Isidore Guild
The Saint Isidore Guild is the counterpart to the St Martha Guild. This guild works under the direction of the Jr. Warden in helping maintain and beautify our grounds and memorial garden.

Choir
Our choir is lead by our organist and choirmaster Mrs. Ginger Jenkins. Ginger has been at St Michael's for 40 years! She started playing the organ at St Michael's before she could drive (really, it's true!). Currently the choir meets at 9:00am on Sunday's for rehearsal.

Abraham Guild
The Abraham Guild makes sure every person who comes to St Michael's is welcomed and treated like family. Name for Abraham who showed hospitality to the three strangers at the Oaks of Mamre, this guild knows that there are angels in our midst and we want them to feel welcome.

Sunday School
We currently have Sunday School for all ages; children meet with Mrs. Gail downstairs, middle school youth meet upstairs, senior high youth meet upstairs, and adults meet in the Parish Hall. A nursery is provided during the Sunday School hour (9:30-10:15am).

Lay Eucharistic Ministers
LEMs (as we call them) are liscensed by the Bishop to help the priest serve the people during communion. LEMs are also charged with leading Morning Prayer in the event the priest is sick, assisting the priest in taking communion to the sick and shut-in, they read the Prayers of the People, and lead the people in the Nicene Creed. For more information, email the rector.

Care Teams
Our Care Teams is an extension of the ministry of the ECW (Episcopal Church Women). Care Teams provide meals during the illness of a member or when a family member dies.
